I recall reading (this might be from Assange) that YouTube is considered by intelligence agencies to be an important state asset for putting out pro-American messaging and inspiring color revolutions around the world. So they would never be allowed to fail.
And recall that for a decade they were "losing" money.
So unfortunately they don't actually need or care about profits.
And this is why it's so difficult to get a competing service off the ground. Fucking spook programs are competing with actual tech companies.
I've heard that those programs fund ycombinator too.

Oh, I mean that part of youtube(or that specific venture). Youtube will never go broke. Google sustains it, and like what you said, no intelligence agency will let it go under either!
