This is a "Sort of" followup to my video on gamergate (https://communities.win/c/KotakuInAction2/p/140cSE6P4b/debunking-wikipedias-article-on-/c ) As I had mentioned "Peer review" in the context of journalism, and I realized not everyone understands what that means since Julian Assange's vision of scientific journalism is a subject on improving journalistic integrity that is rarely discussed.

TL;DR for those who don't want to watch it:

Scientific Journalism is a proposal by Julian Assange to drastically improve the standards, ethics, and overall quality of journalism by encouraging the use of primary sources being publicly available alongside news editorials. It is the basic concept behind what drives Wikileaks, and can be summarized in Assange's words: “Journalism should be more like science, As far as possible, facts should be verifiable.” By having research data behind an editorial available, readers can be assured that they are not reading propaganda as they can check and verify anything they do not agree with.

Interesting, I've always thought the same thing. Journalism has always been something that pretends it's something else, but as it's gotten worse it's driven the more technically minded people out of the profession who tried to keep it more factual. Having sources linked is just one of many things that would improve it, but I suspect even the ones that play along will find ways of cheating. (like having lots of well cited circular sources that somehow go back to their organization)

Additionally like with research they should have to disclose funding - advertisers, investors, grants, etc. That wouldn't always be reasonable in print but online you can have links.

Assange is what the MSM pretends to be. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2021/12/14/glenn_greenwald_julian_assange_is_a_pioneer_of_journalism_a_heroic_dissident.html
