It's command line so on Windows you just open up cmd.exe, cd to folder, and do "yt-dlp.exe <url>". Read instructions to get ffmpeg, save to same folder, so that it can combine separate audio/video streams... not hard really.
edit: also yt<tab> expands to the command, and just ctrl-c the url from browser and right click in cmd.exe to paste it in.
Good job! That is a good way to jumpstart alternatives. And also make sure to properly tag, add descriptions, and mirror the title of the original so your contribution is discoverable.
And remember, not just you but everyone, every positive thing you do to support alt-tech helps even if it feels insignificant to you at the time. Contribute what you can, when you can. If enough of us do the same, our victory is inevitable.
If you have lots of upload bandwidth, like gigabit:
Download LBRY desktop app and use it to watch videos instead of odyssey.com. Everything you watch will be uploaded for others, not things you don't watch. Every once in a while you'll need to clear out lbry-cache (check faq for where it is) because it keeps getting larger and larger and gets tens of thousands of files in it.
IMO if you don't have gigabit upload or at least 100 mbit you're probably hurting rather than helping.
Great idea, I’ve always been annoyed about the way people will constantly whine about how he need alternative platforms while still going back to YouTube every day. I’m guilty of that myself but I’ve at least got some use out of bitchute but it’s interface still sucks shit even compared to YouTube.
OP, much easier with more options.

This fork is better, bypasses age gate and prevents youtube throttling from downloading too fast:
