Since I work from home most of the week and have what I call partial insomnia (sleep about 4 hours a night) I figured I would go to a late showing of the movie. I'm generally turned off by most modern day entertainment, but I wanted to support this movie since it was being trashed by some critics and I heard some people I trust (as well as people here) say it was good. As an 80s baby I loved Ghostbusters and I liked the second one as well. 2016 was a lousy movie so I'm glad they made this one. It is pretty pathetic for critics to be upset because the director of Afterlife said he was doing it for the fans.
It wasn't a perfect movie but in this day and age it was refreshing to have a female lead that wasn't capable of doing everything and who only served to show how much better she was at everything than men were like so many modern day movies and shows do. I loved seeing the original Ghostbusters at the end and when she started to struggle the ghost of her grandfather helped her which is a no no in modern day Hollywood. She had flaws and needed the help of her friends like a normal person.
It did kind of annoy me because Harold Ramis wanted to do a sequel and I liked the "For Harold" message at the end. 2016 could have been a sort of tribute where they have the original ghostbusters training a new generation, but for some reason Sony thought it was wise to crap on the fans and be a bunch of douchebags. Also made me wonder what kind of reaction Force Awakens would've gotten if Rey was fighting valiantly against Kylo Ren but losing and then Luke appears to help her. I guarantee they would've cheered at the theaters.
Aw, fuck, I was cursed to accidentally see 2 seconds of that 2016 abomination while flipping channels. "Ghostbusters? I don't remember this sce -"
"And this is the room where PT Barnum came up with the idea to enslave elephants".
Fuck me, but this pissed me off.
Say what you will about circuses and PT Barnum, but:
Like he really came up with the idea all on his own with no prior examples from anywhere in humanity.
His kind of circus is now a thing of the past. But the vaunted pakis are STILL enslaving elephants, but, oh, that's OK coz KULTure. As if pakiis couldn't make, say, machines that take the elephant's place. Or use the machines the white man invented that take the elephant's place.
Grrr. Fucking false pretend friends to non-humans. Just like their paki friends themselves.
Fun fact: Slimer was always intended to be John Belushi. It wasn't meant to be blatant but more of a tribute since he was planned to be in the cast.
Cool! I never knew that.
100% agree. There really wasn't any woke-shit in the movie, which shocked me.
And in modern day movies/tv you don’t see a female lead needing any help. I loved that her friend and brother worked together with her and they allowed the original ghostbusters to look good as well.
Yeah. She seemed like a real person but still came across as very intelligent and capable. I really liked that we actually get to see that she's nerdy and awkward, unlike so many modern movies that spend forever telling how nerdy a character is without actually showing us any nerdy and/or awkward behavior
