Isn't Israel basically an ethnostate? If so, it is politically correct for its citizens to care highly about cultivating the next generation with their own kind. If it's politically correct, the government of Israel would promote the practice via policy and/or propaganda. And it makes sense for a citizenry to succumb to the pressures of their highly funded government.
But you're not exactly wrong. It is worthy of ridicule if it went down in the manner described above. Succumbing to top-down manipulation, at least.
Evolutionarily, I'd argue it makes sense in most circumstances, but the present standard across most of the globe is for this desire to be admonished by the government. It's as simple as considering why a parent would desire to have their own children rather than adopting.
