My title would be "I'm not sure this is any worse than the present state of things." I also can't help but notice the out of place Mario on the Ubisoft collage.
For all this live service game stuff, NFTs might actually be a net positive. Presuming you can trade them and all on some sort of exchange. Not that I like anything really about the live service game model, but it's here to stay unfortunately. Could you imagine if a Call of Duty (yeah I know not Ubi) was released, came with twice as many maps and goodies at the beginning, and they just said, "Yeah, this is the game, all of it. We aren't adding any expansions, DLC, seasons, weekly prizes, etc." I'd think it was great, but the community that still plays that stuff would flip out.
There is no logical progression from NFTs that doesn't wind up with your console/PC being used to authenticate the blockchain, ie. mining on your electrical dime.
The aforementioned “play-to-earn” is a concept that will involve developers giving cryptocurrency for those who play the game. On our own speculation, this currency could be earned via achievements, and then be spent on digital goods either in-game or more generalized items direct from Ubisoft.
Rrrrright, yes, because previously it was impossible to award ingame items based on achievements, playtime or whatever other ingame metric. We definitely need blockchain for that. Jesus Christ.
"Ubisoft commits to ruining games even more by using crypto"
