I watch NHK (Japanese news in English) sometimes and over the weekend they had a 30 minute segment dedicated to transgender people. I could only stomach it for about 5 minutes but it was the same talking points we hear in the west. Trans people are discriminated against, they deserve our support and compassion, etc.
It made me sad because I was hoping that they would at least stay away from that bullshit.
They're called the ニューハーフ, the "New Halfs". A "half" is someone who's half-Japanese.
Apparently, that's akin to being mentally unstable
I remember when that was just a sexual fetish. Saying "newhalf" was the equivalent to saying "shemale". "Chicks with dicks". Also called lady boys over there. Cross-dressing freakshows, nothing more.
Oh wait, that's still all they are.
Most don't admit it, but the Japanese are probably some of the most racist people in the world. It's not really their fault - their culture is based around isolationism, so they shun outsiders as an inherent part of their culture.
They're pagans. Obedience to power is what they know.
I don't understand, how do those two things follow? Also what does it have to do with being racist? (I probably just missed a larger point in the conversation.)
I would watch 5 mins if its them doing Seppuku live.
That's not new. Remember for example Poison was created by Akiman in 1991, and in America back then censorship made Poison and Roxy just women in Final Fight (also they were quite often either censoring removing female enemies from beat'em ups in America, replacing them with men, which I think also was a case in some port of FF).
