L4D2 is one of those weird sequels which effectively entirely replaces its predecessor since the L4D maps were and campaign were ported over. The addition of melee weapons, more special infected, and new maps ["non linear" ones at that like with the run through the sugar mill then back again to the start during a hurricane] were a nice upgrade, however the PCs that were added in 2 always felt boring and somehow even more caricatured than 1 which had used the "grizzled biker", "old army vet", "working black man", and "girl" archetypes.
Stereotypical as they might have been, Francis, Bill, Louis, and Zoey were at least slightly interesting and fun to play as.
Coach was never going to be the kind of person to survive a zombie apocalypse with that gut he had regardless of the immunity all the players had. Nick would sell out the rest of the group if it meant saving his own skin, or if he could make some money off it. Ellis was just fucking dumb and beyond his suggestion to use the Jimmy Gibbs Jr. racing car to escape the first L4D2 campaign, nothing he ever had said was helpful. Rochelle was similar but managed to not only be just as useless as Ellis, but also less interesting than Zoey who would be her counterpart as "The chick" of the group.
Given the options between picking which groups I'd rather be with in the event of a real zombie apocalypse that order goes:
It was, which is a shame because the concept behind it is super interesting and probably the best "asymmetrical multiplayer" of any that have come out.
Instead now we have Dead By Daylight milking every pre-existing horror IP they can buy.
Tweah, Turtle rock is 'THAT' studio, ahah. L4d1 (with lots of valve's help) to Evolve... to this sharty L4d1 sequel (its more of a retread of L4d2, so i think its more of a successor to l4d1 than 2).
The evolve balance was horrid for pvp, and they added TONS of iaps midway through the life cycle, for an ONLINE ONLY pvp game at $60. Turtle Rock is a garbage game studio and we should laugh heartily when they again fail.
Half life, blueshift,oppfor,cs,tf,deathmatch,tf2,hl2,ricochet,portal,l4d1,dota2,l4d2,portal2, the orangebox/halflife2 sequels, dod,cs source and go, cs for consoles (lol), and the dota card game.
obvs the card game is the only major failure in that past 20 years of games.
Evolve's studio only has ONE hit which they're still riffing off of, that came HEAVILY because of valves help 😜🙃
I played the beta and it was boring as fuck. Whatever talent that studio had is long gone.
Ditto.
It was like they took everything Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 got right, and re-did it the wrong way.

L4D1 survivors
The zombies
Dead
L4D2 survivors
yeah, i think lots of gamers dont realize turtle rock only worked on l4d1, the sequel was pretty much all valve's work.
The idea that they can coast off a single 10 year old game without the weight of their failures (evolve) is some kinda skill...
Oh god they were behind Evolve? I remember that being DOA lol

But enough about Valve and Half Life, kek 🙃
True
