Because anyone who watches it will be terrified at the stupidity of our current world and where things may be heading.
Honestly, horror has always been one my favorite genres. I'm not really into the slasher or sci-fi type stuff, but more the good old fashioned paranormal.
Sadly, it's a dying genre and I don't think there's been anything decent released for years. Although, admittedly, I don't really watch many movies at all these days — and haven't watched TV in several years.
Even gaming horror has gone downhill drastically from what it was quite a while back.
Well, it's all been nothing but either goddamn vampires or zombies for about 2 goddamn decades now. Though Ghost Ship kind of turned me off of the genre for a while, too. The slice and dice opening scene just kind of did it for me.
I'm a sucker for a good old fashion ghost story or paranormal type.
I have seen The Lighthouse and I really enjoyed it as well. I loved the early Hollywood aesthetic and cinematography, although at some points I felt the expressionism may be a bit excessive, the story more than made up for that. It was great. Definitely inspired by Hitchcock quite a bit, no doubt.
Between that film and Hereditary, it seems apparent the genre will probably live on through smaller indie studios more than anything. Which in many ways, I'm fine with.
