That's unfair. Religious people have far better grounding for their beliefs than these idiotic creeps.
Major world religions have thousands of years of mostly sustained success as viable value systems measured against the constraints of reality. Leftism always collapses within a few decades, at best, and that's only if there's a lot of prosperity to burn and/or tremendous tyranny propping things up.
Precisely. Something that has withstood the test of time, even something as abhorrent as Islam, is superior to the untried ravings of loons in that it is capable of survival and success.
Yeah, but the blind obedience to orthodoxy often seen in religion is what people like u/NihilistCaregiver and myself mean when we compare it to religion. It's that same dogged insistence that the authority should never be questioned often seen among religious folk.
To be clear, I'm not anti-religion, I think religion has its good points. I just think some people are a little too prone to hammer you over the head with what they believe to be true, lol.
i wonder if you're referring solely to Christianity here, or if you've had a lot of islamists and buddhists show up at your door to sell their religions..
lol, if islamists show up at my door, I'm checking for suicide vests before I answer it. =P
Muslims I might talk to. ;)
But seriously, I'm not talking about proselytizing, which in and of itself is annoying but harmless. I'm talking about the stubborn refusal to accept anything that goes against what was taught by the thought leaders/Holy doctrine, even if it contradicts new information, or who insist that anyone who doesn't believe what they do is an evil doer who must be destroyed.
I'm not even saying all religious people are bad, as I don't think they are. I'm just saying there is an element of "well we were told this, so it must be true" to leftism as well.
