He's saying the quiet part out loud. They don't care what people think because there are millions of people who will watch whatever garbage they put out with no discernment.
I'd guess most people that are still subscribed to Netflix are watching other shows and movies. I haven't been subscribed to Netflix for years now, but I remember they used to have a lot of shows and movies that weren't made by them. That was certainly the main draw for me.
