Self harming counts regardless of intent towards suicide. This repeats with every time someone /wrists or cuts elsewhere meaning one individual can and will account for multiple "suicide attempts" despite having utterly zero intent towards actually committing suicide.
Now compare that with a 40 something year old man who eats a 12 gauge and unsurprisingly not only does his "attempt" not get counted because he's going to be successful, but he won't be getting the chance to add any more counts to any other category apart from "just another forgotten man".
