They're always talking beefed up security and identity, yet I was just able to renew a year's worth of expired driver license which originated in 2008 by signing a form and submitting payment.
By the time this license expires the photo will be nearly 30 years old. That doesn't seem like very tight national security, hurr durr. But you better wear that mask to show your political identity.
We haven't had a car in 20 years. I am in no condition to drive a car and I don't. But I do have a shiny new state drivers license ID good for another 5 years with a photo that dates back decades.
The rulers are fucking hilariously inept.
And yet:
You still had to pay $54 for something that took them maybe a minute (being generous) to process, that you wouldn't need unless they insisted you did
If you dared to drive without the magic card, you're looking at fines and/or possible jail time (it looks like in WA it's $250-$1000 fine or up to 90 days in jail)
If you dare suggest that people follow the process you did and use those easy to get and not necessarily accurate IDs to prove who they are to decide who makes the laws, you suddenly become a massive racist bigot
Regression to the mean. Genetics is the greatest indicator of how a group of people will act, regardless of location or environmental factors. Detractors quote studies of human behavior based on genetics of children, but ignore (either out of intentional evil or unintentional ignorance) that genetics plays an increasingly greater role the older a person gets.
Children are natural sponges of information. Something about the neonate state primes us for learning and expressions of intelligence. It's especially true in mammals but in other types of animals too. (I saw a special about wild turkeys and they definitely demonstrated it.)
Upon reaching sexual maturity a switch is flipped and we revert to a state where it's harder to learn and we fall back to instinctual behaviors more often. This will get worse with age if the mind isn't exercised and aimed towards higher thoughts.
I was thinking about loicenses too because I don't like the idea but I'm not sure what an alternative would be.
It's not like with guns where your use of them will necessarily be in direct coordination with other people, you actually do need to know the rules of the road before you should get on one. People are decently self-regulating with gun rules regardless of most places not requiring any training to have one, but again there's no public institution where you're expected to be using them with other people..
What could we do instead of licenses for cars for use on public roads? Would it really just not matter if we did away with the tests? They're pretty bare bones and shitty anyway, I guess.
What's that? In the distance.. the sound of.. shattering windows, shocked screams..
Liability rules and routine certification (by private organizations) that lowers your insurance premiums.
You should try the DMV in Yakima. It takes so long to get anything done, it was easier and faster to drive to Ellensburg 45 minutes away and take care of things there.
There's a reason the federal government doesn't consider a WA state driver's license as acceptable proof of ID, you have to get an "enhanced" ID instead.
