I've not played it but I understand that it fits in the narrative that everything men make is bad and she literally saves the world from the mistakes of men. I understand that she is also from a matriarchal society.
No idea if it is true or not, I just see the game as bad compared to the Witcher. Better looking world, a lot more interactive, tons of lore and interesting characters and sexy babes. I see no reason to play Horizon over Witcher or even Skyrim for that matter.
To be fair, the matriarchal society she comes from is not portrayed in an idyllic light. Not only is it the most isolationist, socially-backward, and technologically-primitive of all the tribes depicted in the game, but it's also dealt the harshest criticism in-universe, with Aloy expressing the most disdain for it.
Thank you for the great summary. I put a lot of hours into the game but never finished it and the story just seemed so contrived and stupid I stopped caring. The gameplay is really fun though I'm not really sure if it's worth the (woke) price of admission. Luckily I waited and got the complete version for like ten bucks and feel I did get my money's worth from the gameplay and graphics point of view. Because who doesn't like blowing up robot dinosaurs?
The recurring theme of the game is her dumping on the 'superstitious' beliefs of the tribes even though Aloy has literally no more knowledge than they do and no justifiable reason for doubting the supernatural beliefs. She's just portrayed as intrinsically smarter than everyone for no reason.
Maybe because she was raised by a man? If the menfolk have to shoulder the blame for all of the problems in their society, then surely Rost is entitled to some credit for making Aloy into someone a little bit better than the rest.
I'm not saying a true matriarchal society has ever been tried and would turn out just like the backwards bullshit in the game. But having worked in environments with lots of women of a certain type I can see it trending in that direction over time.
I'm playing Biomutant, it's running great on my potato of a computer, and has done a better job of getting me "into" the world than Witcher3 did. It's also serving as a great trainer for that controller I've been meaning to better myself with. The environmental message is firmly stuck in the 70s/80s (the "humans" have simply moved on after making their mess, as apes are wont to do ...)
Yeah, there's some bitching in the forums that you can't select your sex, but these morons don't seem to have noticed that you can't NAME yourself, either. And judging by the way my critter pisses on signposts, I'd say he's definitely a boy.

Was it the Box Wine And Hot Chip Tribe.

Sounds like the kind of crap Soyny would support, to be honest.
