I've watched enough old comedy to notice this much:
Jewish mother to SON: "Find a nice JEWISH girl and settle down."
Jewish mother to DAUGHTER: "Find a RICH man and settle down."
Because while Judaism seems "patriarchical" for the most part, it considers descent through the mother - if the mother's a Jew, so is the kid. The father can be literally anything; a goy, a god, a cosmic space goat .. the kid is still a Jew.
Yes, but that also means that the men are very protective of their women since they can't marry anyone else.
