I'm not sure if it's a hindsight related fallacy or not, but I've become suspicious of products that get wide promotion and hype.
Back when Gloomhaven was new, it seemed like it was the talk of the town for lack of a better term.
Now consider that leftist will never allow themselves to promote or endorse anything that doesn't score high enough in their purity tests.
That leads to the only conclusion that anything that gets hyped big in SJW-infested communities like board games is exclusively because it is woke enough to get promoted / astroturfed. Thankfully, like video games, the under-the-radar indies are still discoverable (for now).
I have the same attitude towards anything with a female protagonist created after about 2014.
Every creator knows the score; if your protagonist is female, then the radical leftists will put your character under a woke microscope, determine if it meets specifications, and destroy you if it doesn't.
Ergo, if you're not hearing about how problematic a female protagonist is, then that female protagonist must meet the approval of radical leftists - and I have no interest in anything that meets with the approval of leftists.
So now I straight up avoid any media with female protagonists. Saves me the time and effort of discovering the same thing over and over again: that female protags in current year are a near-100% indicator for woke garbage.
Didn't used to be this way. I will gladly engage with female-led media pre-2015 or so. A lot of good media falls into that category. But new media, for me, must start with a male protagonist. Because that's one of the surest signs that it isn't leftist garbage.
You're generally safe with animu big bob waifubait, at least, until the localizers are done their hatchet-job with it.
Some hype, but a lot of it was earned. Gloomhaven is actually damn good. I've played through two full campaigns in it, one with a 3 player group and one with a 2 player group. In the co-op dungeon crawl category, it's easily the best game out there.
