wouldn’t the best way to highlight female and minority storytellers be to hold them to the same standards as you would a straight white male?

Well I mean since that seems to be the only group that can be held accountable. Someone like Ava duvernay can keep cranking out garbage race hustling movies and keep getting rewarded

You misunderstand. I think there's a pretty good chance that female and minority writers were treated fairly - they just mostly sucked. What have we seen since diversity became the number one priority of media? A lot of very bad writers being promoted based on gender and skin color. If there were so many great female and minority writers being held back by racism and sexism, why haven't they materialized today?

Because the diversity premise was false.
