FilePlanet was a site that distributed game files and some other software, the site had fallen into disuse with the GameSpy shutdown and was in an archival state until it got sold by IGN to some Slovenian bastards who go by Innova Media...
Now the files are gone and completely replaced by malware, and people who are trying to find old files are getting infected by this piece of shit, plus the articles are all gone.
This whole situation is IGN's fault as they could have just sat on the site instead, and I doubt they will try to make it right as said journalistic outlet is controlled by the regressive left.
Traditional leftist morality.
Did they sell the site or the domain name to Innova Media directly, or did they simply let the domain lapse, allowing Innova Media to move in only indirectly?
If it's the latter, I'd put the blame on the domain registrar instead, who I think have a moral duty to not resell a lapsed domain in circumstances where that would cause harm to the public.
It looks like they sold the site as it initially resembled the pre sale site but with IM replacing IGN
Yeah, further investigation does suggest this was a direct sale - a whois lookup still has the same 1997 registration date, and a Google search confirms that an Innova Media is claiming to have bought that website.
I feel like this happened a few years ago. I remember looking for some legacy drivers and decided to try fileplanet and when I went to download anything my antivirus went nuts.
The first reported incident of this happening occurred in late 2016 after the sale was completed.
Sometimes I think actual files became available when they tweak their model occasionally as I think I downloaded tux paint and verified the exe with virus total, plus I have also seen them try to push their adblocker too.
I hate the IGN network, but it would be funny if they reported them for malware distribution and pressured ICANN and maybe the local government into giving the domain back, I am not sure if this would count as a scam but fuck Innova Media.
That's really sad. A fan made a graphical upgrade to the Ghostbusters game from the 1980's and put it on fileplanet. Now I don't know if it's safe.
hopefully some of it ends up in archive.orgs software collection at least.
What in the fuck?
You aren't making a crazy post about some conspiracy theory or other, of course you're getting down voted.
Thanks for the info and heads up though.
