Anyone who thinks cryptocurrency is the answer doesn't understand cryptocurrency. People think that cryptocurrency serves the underdog, but it doesn't - it serves whoever wields the most power in an attempt to control it. That's not you, it's the CCP, or Google, or Amazon. What we need is a payment processor controlled by someone who actively works to prevent it being subverted, not crypto's open invitation to the world.
Well, unless someone can come up with a moneyless system (which even the bull-moose commies and Roddenberry-ites can't seem to imagine), the only real competitor for the currency system is good old-fashioned barter.
(Of course, the only reason humans do "higher" things for fun in the Trek world, is because someone already took away all the television, movies, and social media as distractions. Oh, and drugs and real alcohol, too. So they might as well learn how to paint.)
