Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen Suggests White Male National Guard Members Are an Insider Threat
by KRISTINA WONG 18 Jan 2021
Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen (TN) on Monday suggested that white male service members could be a threat, based on his claim that most white men did not vote for Joe Biden.
I was reading about this on my Twitter account, I guess, and people were reminding people of Anwar Sadat and Indira Gandhi who were killed by their own people. I was thinking, the guard is 90 some odd percent, I believe, male.
Only about 20 percent of white males voted for Biden. You have got to figure that the guard, which is predominantly more conservative and I see that on my social media, and we know it, they are probably 25 percent of the people that are there protecting us who voted for Biden.
The other 75 percent are in the class that would be the large class of folks who might want to do something. And there were military people and police who took oath to defend the Constitution and to protect and defend who didn’t do it who were in the insurrection. So it does concern me. But the vetting at the last minute —

FBI vetting Guard troops in DC amid fears of insider attack
By LOLITA C. BALDOR today
Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told The Associated Press on Sunday that officials are conscious of the potential threat, and he warned commanders to be on the lookout for any problems within their ranks as the inauguration approaches. So far, however, he and other leaders say they have seen no evidence of any threats, and officials said the vetting hadn’t flagged any issues that they were aware of.
”We’re continually going through the process, and taking second, third looks at every one of the individuals assigned to this operation,” McCarthy said in an interview after he and other military leaders went through an exhaustive, three-hour security drill in preparation for Wednesday’s inauguration. He said Guard members are also getting training on how to identify potential insider threats.

Texas Gov. Abbott: Vetting of National Guard the ‘Most Offensive Thing I’ve Ever Heard’
by HANNAH BLEAU 19 Jan 2021
“This is the most offensive thing I’ve ever heard. No one should ever question the loyalty or professionalism of the Texas National Guard,” Abbott said in response to the reports of the FBI vetting the 25,000 troops coming into the district over concerns of a potential threat from the inside.
“@TexasGuard I authorized more than 1,000 to go to DC. I’ll never do it again if they are disrespected like this,” the Republican governor vowed:

Multiple unnamed witnesses sent videos to the FBI that reportedly showed Straka outside the Capitol, shouting "we're going in!" and "Go! go!"
According to documents, one video showed an officer from the United States Capitol Police holding a protective shield. As individuals pushed past the officer toward the entrance of the U.S. Capitol, the officer held his shield up in the air, the report states. According to documents, Straka is heard shouting, “Take it away from him," and others in the crowd then yelled, “Take the shield!” As several people in the crowd grabbed the officer’s shield, Straka yelled, “Take it! Take it!”
More than 125 people have been arrested so far on charges related to the violent insurrection led by supporters of former President Donald Trump at the Capitol, where a Capitol police officer and four others were killed.

WH source: The NRA, Turning Point USA & Patriot Guard Riders are three of many non-militia groups on the list CID / FBI are using to cross reference in vetting for potential "extremists"
“YAF also on the list”
“They're looking at various TPUSA chapters in almost every university and high school where there is one (for example high school members who are in the future soldier program, which is Army's version of Delayed Entry Program) + college age soldiers obviously already in.”
“Investigators also looking for the following in pictures: MAGA / KAG apparel, Gadsden flag, Confederate Flag, NRA gear, Q stuff”
“Soldiers facebooks, twitters, instagrams, tik-toks and snapchats also being checked, units from deep red states such as Texas being thoroughly examined.”
“Left wing, anarchist groups also listed but not a top priority, in fact zero have been investigated as of this evening. Leaders in both Army + FBI have directed to focus attention on groups with "strong conservative sentiments"
“NCIS, AFOSI, CGIS also expecting to receive that directive from senior DoD officials in the coming days, this goes way beyond the inauguration. It won't magically stop after tomorrow.”

Florida Man Charged With Election Interference by Spreading Disinformation, Usually Via Memes
BY ALEXANDRA HUTZLER ON 1/27/21 AT 3:24 PM EST
A Florida man arrested Wednesday is accused of using social media platforms to mislead voters ahead of the 2016 presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Douglass Mackey, a 31-year-old social media influencer who operated under the online alias "Ricky Vaughn," was charged with conspiring to spread disinformation designed to "deprive individuals of their constitutional right to vote."
William Sweeney Jr., the assistant director of the FBI's New York field office, said in a statement that what Mackey allegedly did "amounted to nothing short of vote theft."
"It is illegal behavior and contributes to the erosion of the public's trust in our electoral processes," Sweeney Jr. added. "He may have been a powerful social media influencer at the time, but a quick Internet search of his name today will reveal an entirely different story."

A Trump supporter who attended the peaceful rally that preceded the Capitol Hill riot revealed to The Post Millennial that she was flagged with facial recognition technology and interrogated by Homeland Security while flying home from vacation last week. Then FBI agents appeared at her house.
When 54-year-old Dana Kurtbek of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, travelled to Mexico with her daughter, the conservative woman was held at Philadelphia Airport for intensive screening conducted by the Transportation Security Administration—even though she is enrolled in the expedited TSA PreCheck program—and missed her American Airlines flight.
Later that week on Friday night, two FBI agents appeared at her front door, informing Kurtbek that the bureau had received two reports from anonymous sources claiming that she was inside the Capitol building during the incident. The agents cited a screenshot captured from a CNN video that depicted a woman identified by authorities as Kurtbek.
"Since I know I was nowhere near the Capitol, I laughed and asked to see the photo and if it was possible to know who identified me because they are absolutely lying and wasting taxpayer money by sending them both out to my home," Kurtbek recounted.
When she prompted the main officer for his business card, he said he was out and flashed his badge. Kurtbek also asked if she could record the conversation, but her request was denied.

FBI raids homes of 2 men who held rally on eve of Capitol attack
By Paul P. Murphy and Marshall Cohen, CNN
Updated 1001 GMT (1801 HKT) February 3, 2021
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller confirmed that federal agents executed search warrants last week at two properties in Orange County, California, which public records indicate belong to Russell Taylor and Alan Hostetter. The two men run the American Phoenix Project, which co-sponsored a pro-Donald Trump rally near the Supreme Court on January 5, one day before the attack.
An FBI spokesperson told CNN the search was conducted at the property Taylor owns at 6 a.m. Wednesday. CNN obtained photos and videos of FBI agents at his house hours later.
Spokespeople for the FBI and the Justice Department declined to comment further about the raids or what investigators were searching for, noting that the case files are still sealed.
A lawyer for Taylor, Dyke Huish, told CNN that the agents were "just gathering information on people that were at or near the Capitol building on the day in question," referring to January 6. Huish said Taylor "cooperated with investigators" and the search was finished "without incident." Eimiller, the FBI spokeswoman, said "no arrests were made" during the searches.
Photos from Hostetter's Instagram and photojournalists place him and Taylor just outside the Capitol building during the riot. An AFP photographer snapped an image of Taylor giving police the finger around 4:30 p.m. near the North side of the Capitol, near the entrance to the Senate.
Two other photos show Taylor near a police line on the North side of the Capitol. One photo shows him using his body to push against a police line; the other shows him near a police line with what appears to be a gas mask.
He later wrote on Facebook that he never made it inside.

Mr. Austin also ordered that all military commands “stand down” at some point in the next 60 days to reinforce existing regulations barring extremist activity in the military, and to ask troops for their views on the scope and severity of the issue, the Pentagon press secretary, John F. Kirby, told reporters. He said many details of the “stand down” — a pause in operations that the military often uses to address safety issues — need to be worked out.
“This is very much a leadership issue, down to the lowest level,” Mr. Kirby said, citing what Mr. Austin, a former four-star Army general, had told the Pentagon leaders on a video call.
Duranty here has a very... stream-of-consciousness style of posting. Most of it makes no sense, and the intent appears to be to have a large amount of enraging information in one place.
I agree that breaking things up into a cogent narrative would be better, but I'm not aggregating the links, so I don't get to pick the style.
