It's very possible that Trump was an elaborate false choice, designed to quell the growing dissent. However, Occam's Razor suggests that this isn't the most obvious conclusion, based on the information we have.
The temperature in the room isn't cooler than it was in 2016; it's quite a bit warmer.
If it was an "elaborate false choice" intended to quell dissent it was implemented about as incompetently as every other scheme concocted by our managerial class.

I came across a list of quotes to "prove" Yarvin is a white supremacist and the first was a quote from an article where he suggested putting the homeless in VR hives. So apparently suggesting the homeless live in pods and own nothing is white supremacy but for everyone else it is fine.
