I'm terrible at cooking, but this is the fate I have chosen. It's not a matter of pride, I just failed to make that much time to learn (and I'm also bad at it).
The consequence isn't too bad because it means I eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, my food is typically cold, salad, or sandwich.
but there's a world of difference between "Yeah, I'm not a great cook, but I can manage" and "I can't even make myself a cup of tea, tee hee"
My trade-off was physics and programming.
Sure, that might sound like a fair trade-off... but if you compare how often I could have made myself mac & cheese, versus the amount of times I've benefited from explaining quantum tunneling; you'll find that the Mac & Cheese would have been the better investment.
There's a million basic cooking videos on youtube, my man. There's no excuse unless your arms don't work. Feeding yourself is an essential skill, especially for someone who has been telling people to buy a Galil for ages now. You can't eat all the agile managers and youtube content creators we'll be soon hunting down for sustenance in ruins of once great cities raw.

Are you kidding me? I bag one of those babies and i'll be set for years. Everything will taste like Code Red, though.
No, but I don't think we're anywhere near that level of crisis yet, nor will we be soon. That's just not how power changes hands. I don't see any of this as a civilizational collapse. Those tend to happen when civilizations are isolated. Typically, if a non-isolated civilization collapses, it's because people simply move. The civilization didn't die, just the old cities did because they couldn't adapt. That's honestly the worst case scenario of what's going to happen.
More likely this is just the beginning of the change in the fundamental world power structure.

Jews in New York City specifically. That's not because I think they'll have to hunt deer in New York, it's because they'll need that to oppose lynchers.
