Today we will discuss which game should win our award for "Best Hack & Slash" and who should receive our "White Feather" award for the aggressive Feminist propaganda
Please consider what you would like to argue should be the winning item for each of the passing categories.
Additionally, consider who you would like to nominate as your electors. You may choose 3 electors to cast votes for you on your behalf. Persuade them as necessary. You may choose yourself once. The top 12 most nominated electors will assemble as our electoral tribunal, and will vote on the final categories. Feel free to message me directly with your nomination, or comment your nominations publicly. The electors are allowed to vote their own conscience.
White Feather : Battlefield V, always.
The worst part of Battlefield V is that they could have done a level about the Night Witches or something actual women did.
Instead they erased a group of actual men and replaced them with a spunky mother daughter team.
It's not just pandering, it's insidious.
That's the point. I maintain to this day that the whole furore about women in multi-player was a distraction from that, so that people only found out after sales were in and everyone was dismissed as an "incel" for questioning it.
I probably should have asked this before- is this a "This Year" thing, or an "All Time" thing?
Best Hack & Slash: Devil May Cry 5
White Feather: The Last of Us 2
Preferably this year.
However, if your arguments are persuasive...
I loved the first Hyrule Warriors and still go back and play it sometimes. I can't think of a game that offers me a challenge but lets me also feel badass and mow down masses of enemies. Age of Calamity looks fun and really just more of the same but in the world of Breath of the Wild. I just don't have a Switch so I haven't played it. I've heard complaints about performance, but I don't really worship at the altar of Digital Foundry so...
If it's like the first entry it would probably get my vote.
It doesn't matter too much.
I'd nominate Cyberpunk for feminist propaganda. Literally everyone in the game who you need to go through to get information or pull off something inportant is female. Males (one maybe two exceptions) are relegated to helpers, generic thugs, washed up, or gay romance options. At no point whatsoever does the game assume you're interested in playing a hetero male or female, and goes out of its way to avoid pronoun use. "HEY V!"
Despite as far as it goes with all this, it still falls short of what lgbtqp editorials expected and there were numerous articles calling it out as such. Still, it created a benchmark of sorts that other games will be challenged to beat going forward.
If we're going strictly feminist, I'll also back Last of Us 2, which couldn't hold it's shit for 3 minutes of gameplay before we're supposed to sympathize with Elly because the bigot barkeeper called her a word. Not in front of us though, the night before. Just take her word guys, it was really mean.
Edit: both are meant as consideration for this year's releases only.
Bayonetta had a re-release in 2020, so how about that? As with most categories I'm two years behind anyway. I think the newest hack and slash game I've played this year is Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Yet I've actually played a lot of the genre this year. Just all old. Is there even a new hack and slash series beyond DMC anymore? I don't count Souls stuff in that genre myself.
For Feminist Propaganda I will just nominate TheImpossible1 for elector. Even if I thought of something myself there's no way he doesn't have something better.
Bayonetta is feminist?
+1
Oh no. Bayonetta is most definitely not feminist. That was for best hack and slash game. I should have been more specific.
You get 3 total to vote on all subject, not 3 for each category. However, you can still keep him if you want. You get 2 more nominations.
Ah, first time in this process for me. I will keep him in and get a couple others in mind next few days. Thanks for info
It's the first time for all of us. :)
I'd say Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity for hack and slash, and Assassins Creed Valhalla for feminist propaganda.
Geez for this year hack and slash? Shit.
I don't know, but for the white feather, that prize has to go to ma'amgender simulator The Last of us 2.
I'll go ahead and nominate Hades for best hack n slah. I'll probably nominate it for GOTY also.
A few hack and slash have come out this year but I've only played One Piece Warriors 4, so that's what I gotta nominate.
