I had a conversation with my boss today and mentioned the "totalitarian dystopia we now live in". His response: "can you give me an example of what you mean by that?"
The most bizarre thing to come out of all this is how many people see all of this as normal, and that the people who see it as normal think you're the crazy one for saying "this isn't normal".
Why this reaction NOW, and not to, say, bird flu or swine flu? SARS? They couldn't even be arsed to stop flights from China to Toronto, where 250 people died. That was two or three pandemics ago.
My guess is that they finally crossed some threshold of effectiveness with their propaganda machines. It took a few iterations and the maturing of the internet.
I'm thinking they're convinced that they can finally make a communist revolution happen - again, just like they were in 1968. They did sort of succeed back then, but not in a way they thought. Read Days of Rage.
