The problem is that, should they choose to not be genuine, users have already handed over key doxxing information.

If they want the means to figure out who you are in the real world, there is a reason for that and that reason is malicious.
The reason doesn't need to be malicous. Even if they had your best interest in mind (as if they knew what that would be), bad actors are inevitable in any company with more than one employee.
Any data that can be used can and will be abused.
I was going to sign up for Parler until I saw they wanted my phone number. Nope. Fuck that in its ear. It's bad enough that Google has that info and ties it to my account, or that various other corporate entities use it to send me 2FA prompts and text messages for security access. As much as I hate Facebook, I'm not jumping onto the ship of a company that is potentially even more draconian while claiming to be for free speech.
