I know you're saying there's a ton of kids who play the game, and you're right, but it's one of the most popular games ever sold, and has millions of mature players, so don't be so dismissive.
Dude, age-shaming over games is kind of worn out. I remember when it was considered silly for adults to play video games, period; don't you know space invaders is just a fad for babies? And boys only play it because it attracts girls ....
That being said, just looking at screenies of minecraft gives me migraines, I was happy to say "good riddance" to the 8-bit era ...
Everybody who plays is like 5.
Believe it or not, the average age of a Minecraft player is 24

I still enjoy playing it every now and then, and I'm 27.
i just recently even got my legos from the attic.
granted i just built a case for my raspberrys and tv-cards to hide behind the tv, but still it counts as me staying young and awesome, damn you!

I wasn't shaming as much as explaining why such a system would be implemented.
Eh, I give it a go every once in a while, and I'm 40.
Granted, though, that is mostly to make something for the kids...
I've been thinking about firing it up again. BTW, I wish I was forty. Forty was a long, long time ago.
