Kinda sad, the first one was fun at least. The main issue is that it's a Wonder Woman movie in the year 2020, that means it will be filled with useless and cringy political commentary.
The other issue is a more in-depth one. If you have ever read a Wonder Woman comic, you may have realized she doesn't have decent stories, nor cool unique villains. Like no joke, she is incredibly bland in her own comics. I can't think of single storyline that would make a good movie (maybe a terrible one? Like with Amazons Attack haha). I would even argue that her best appearances are in the cartoons, at least the ones from the 90's.
She is entirely a team up character. Justice League is filled with them, like Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter. They are only popular because of being in those books and their solo runs are mostly for show.
Wonder Woman is in the strangest spot of being incredibly popular and forgettable.
She was "the girl" comic book character early on and half a century later we have a picture of where it goes when you throw characters in to appease and appeal but have no meaningful long term plans for them. She was one of the very first, and all avenues were open. Nothing was taken by other characters yet. They're still struggling to make her interesting enough to carry a 2 hour movie.
I didn't hate the new 52 story with her relationship with the other olympians, trying to hide one of zeus' bastards from hera
I was gonna mention the new 52 hahaha, if it succeeded in anything, it was in making Wonder Woman halfway decent. Too bad it never really went anywhere. New 52 is a very contentious subject for comics fans haha
There were a couple of runs under certain writers where she shone, the only one I've read was in relation to Cassie Sandsmarks (Wonder girl) origin but the best Wonder Woman in my mind is "make the most awesome sword and sandal movie/comic/episode you can and stick this superhero in it".
I'd love to see her in Tyr na Nog again. That comic was gorgeous. Batman really wasn't needed either.
