Because the federal government doesn't want people using drugs known to cause psychosis. Can you honestly look at the left today and say we need more madmen?
You mean that Reefer Madness that I've heard talk about?
I mean the multiple studies that show a correlation between long term marijuana use and psychosis.
Probably has a beer sitting next to him, and the irony is totally lost.
Unfortunately, we're still at the stage with convincing liberals and libertarians that yes, weed can and is bad for your health. Though one can make the argument that the government shouldn't be controlling what one does to themselves. That is of course, contingent on how adverse said effects are on oneself, or even others.
I will say that when it comes to the "drug war", the slippery slope does indeed exist. We're getting to a point now where hard drugs have gotten decriminalized at the state level (Oregon). Because apparently it's "safer" when junkies shoot up in more regulated places to prevent deaths from ODs. Where people like them shouldn't be stigmatized so that they can get help. Etc.
Does that sound familiar? I hope that it does to anyone who frequents this site. Since these are very similar arguments you hear when it comes to pedophiles and the LGBT(Insert new letters here). Those parallels have been there for decades. Unfortunately, since the slippery slope argument is considered a fallacy, people just don't think it can happen.
