This is really the main point I get to with most of this stuff they've done for Covid. It's not necessarily what you're asking (telling) me to to. It's the total lack of goalposts.
Want me to go along with some restriction? First, convince me it's actually going to accomplish anything. Then, set some reasonable discrete defined goals and stick to them. Having someone I don't trust at all make demands to me until whenever they fucking feel like rescinding them? Well, that just makes me defiant.
It was fine when it was 15 days. Or even "until summer so it can wind down." The only people complaining then were the ones nervous about it never ending.
Its been 8 months and we are doubling down on lockdown rather than taking steps in reverse, seemingly this is never going to end.
A lot of us realized that politicians are cowards and would be terrified of opening things up again because any deaths after re-opening would be laid at the feet at the politicians for doing so.
I thought the drastic reduction in tax revenue resulting from shutting down the economy would eventually shock these politicians into re-opening, but I severely underestimated both the cowardice of our Betters and their ability to deny reality.
They'll just raise taxes to make up the shortfall.
