side note, whats with the dude in the middle with the xylophone. could you imagine going over the top with that instead of a gun

When the tactic is to slowly and politely walk through no-man's land in a civilized manner, there's an argument in favour of carrying a nice big metal xylophone, to be fair.

No, you see, the trick is you leave it in No Man's Land with a copy of the sheet music for "Believe Me, if All Those Endearing Young Charms". The Kaiser's men never learned the countertactic of playing a few notes flat.

"Say, Mr Benny, is the war over yet?"

"Why yes, yes it is."

"Oh, that's wonderful. I wonder what they'll do with the Kaiser?"

There's guys with trumpets or horns as well. So I assume that this picture was taken before or after a parade to honor their service.

How on earth did they survive in those trenches when they did not even have safe spaces and emotional support ponies?

The emotional support ponies froze to death after being shaved to help prevent parasites.

This picture is so white! Where is the representation for women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ veterans of WW1? Their roles in stopping the Nazis were just as important, and probably more so, then cis-white men.

Kraut boolits are no match for the American xylophone.
