We really are a beacon of hope for the rest of the world and this drives that home for me. It also emphasizes just how important it is that we preserve the precious gift our forefathers bequeathed us.

This is rough knowing what went on in that part of the world and knowing that not many people outside of it knew what happened. Or if they did they have long since forgot or downplayed it.

To say things were bleak is a vast understatement.

I don't think the US is as ethnically, religiously, or culturally divided as there for us to end up like that. However:
