How could affirming banana republic style election fraud "preserve the union"? If anything, that might be the single most likely thing to actually cause a civil war.
Looking at the history of the US the Democrats have done some pretty fucked up shit that the courts have simply ignored for this very same reason.
For instance the Japanese Internment Camps. This wasn’t some fringe group that carried this out. This was legitimately a state sponsored program that literally stripped Americans citizens of virtually all their constitutional rights just because.
When it was all said and done, nothing happened to the Dems. I think it wasn’t until the 80s that a formal apology was given to the Japanese Americans who were locked up. Not to mention it was Regan a Republican that made the apology on behalf of the US. Even though the Democrats had control of the government for a little over 20 years. It was because of them that term limits was put in place. FDR had been President for over 12 years! He literally only stopped being President because he died.
That might be because FDR actually didn't order the nukes. He was dead. Truman ordered the nukes dropped.
Now, to be fair, he almost 100% WOULD have ordered the nukes dropped, given how much funding he had put into their R&D. But Truman was the one to actually make the call.
To them it might be better than the ugly truth that the entire political machine of the US is blatantly picking and choosing who the leader is while throwing out the people's voice.
The reality is that the damage is already done. Since an admission that the election was rigged would cause more outrage among the masses, it's better to pretend it wasn't and dismiss anyone left saying it was as a "conspiracy theorist", keeping the idea that votes somehow matter alive to the general populace. There is little chance the Trump supporters will actually start the boog, so it's the best option.

If not for WW2 glory, FDR might actually get the criticism he deserved for some of the worst atrocities and fuckups of any president.
Even when people attack America for the nuking of Japan, they don't attack him just a vague "America." He is protected.

Considering aforementioned R&D, he shares a large share of said responsibility for them existing to be dropped.
The people who attack America over the nukes are the same ones who consider Obama's actions in the Middle East Bush's fault too.
But it was a genuine mistake on my part, I need to unplug for a while and get my thoughts back in order to be that fucking off on something.
That's what they'll claim. In reality, they're traitors.
