Prohibiting weed is now racist.

Oh, they've been barking up that tree for YEARS. Even to the point where we're not supposed to say "marijuana" even where it's perfectly legal. "It's CANNABIS". Yes, that's the technical term, and it looks more professional on a storefront sign, but I see little "racist" in using the Mexican slang term, I've used it all my life, and I just think it sounds softer and nicer than "cannabis".
And in case anyone is wondering, this is what a typical legal store looks like in Alberta: https://www.narcity.com/u/2018/10/17/a88a66cd9374fe794082ab0a907f10d3a54314c9.png_640xrel.png No head shop bullshit.
Tbh, I'm so tired of the clean, minimalist, "modern" look of things everywhere. Give me a head shop with a bunch of dumb stickers and some "tobacco use only" (wink wink nudge nudge say no more) any day
Yeah, but there's reasons they went for the cleaned-up, jewelry-store look. Not that Farmer Brown picking up some joints for his long day on the tractor is any more comfy in one than the other, but at least he can feel a little bit respectable when he goes in, and probably doesn't relate much to Bob Marley. :P
Fair points. I dont like stoner culture much either, but at least the stores have a culture. They've got life
Well, I'm sure some pipes-only shops are still like that; the two around here I can think of, one might have a couple of posters, but otherwise, isn't as cluttered as some old-school places I remember from way back when, and the other one ... is just too jam-packed with stuff to really "decorate". The picture shown is an outlet where you can actually buy weed/weed products as well as paraphenalia (but you're better off going to a headshop for gear, the weed stores' are waaaay overpriced. You're just not allowed to see the weed first. Shades of old-school Ontario liquor sales.)
Anyway, it's just a kind of ... cultural shift, or take-over if you will, a gentrification of the marijua .... cannabis industry. The government kind of underestimated how "normalized" it already was amongst the middle class riff-raff.
It's just kind of another sign of how out of touch "the elite" actually are with normal people. Kind of like old-school TV executives thinking that normal people would be offended by the sight of pregnant women - in the middle of the Baby Boom, when being pregnant was the style.
Calling it Marijuana to associate it with dirty Mexicans was part of the strategy for getting it banned originally when the paper companies didn't want to compete with hemp.
It's horseshit to use that to call people racist now, but that is interesting history.
It looks exactly like the SQdC shops in Québec.
Ugly as sin.
