These people really see no difference. They really believe that anyone that supports the president of the US is a monster that is out to kill them. Not worthy of any empathy whatsoever.
You're wrong. They may not have empathy for Trump supporters, but they definitely do have empathy for radical Islamist throat-slitters. Them we 'need to understand'. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, y'know?
Once it is demonstrated that these people, and their opinions, represent a fairly small minority, they’ll start losing steam.
That's one of the things I cling to for at least a tiny piece of hope that it can be fixed if enough people see that these groups that essentially call themselves the bolsheviks (literally the majority) just aren't a majority at all. I'm not sure it can happen, but you know for my own sake I have to give myself at least one positive outcome to think about.

Nail on head. I've seen them defend Islamist's many times, never Trump supporters though.
