I just logged into my personal email to find a whole bunch of phishing shit, some of which was reasonably convincing (i.e. fake invoices for digital products that I do actually have), along with receiving an interminable number of spam texts, though that's not so much of a recent phenom...
I have quite a few spam filters set up, and they're usually reasonably effective, although they seem to be getting much weaker, in that regard, in the last couple of years...
Very irritating. Unfortunately transferring from Mac to PC means that I've had to invest in Norton Antivirus again (yes, I know there are other options. This one came with the setup), and I've also been forced back into the use of Microsoft Outlook, both through Uni and because, again, Windows computer, so I'm not sure how much either of those have played into the spam increase, but man am I ever sick of it... Not sure whether the move to and from Sweden, and everything involved in that, may have contributed too, but I doubt it...
Kind of curious whether anyone else, in different situations and countries, have noticed a similar uptick, because I know that it's not just me being impacted by this, where I live...
It’s currently just over halfway through the national jury votes (which are a panel of supposed music industry “experts” from each country), and they’ve almost all sent their votes to both of the non-binary freaks competing (Ireland and especially Switzerland), while giving barely a single vote to a song about drugs and disobeying the law/police (Estonia)…
This coming after the EBU literally kicked the Netherlands out of the contest at the last minute (for “making a threatening gesture at the camera”), Ireland refused to participate in rehearsals, and politics has absolutely dominated the whole affair, including a whole bunch of “jury representatives” boycotting because of Israel…
Even the supposedly “conservative” Eastern European countries are sending their votes to a man in a dress, singing about how he is “neither male nor female”…
Obviously I know approximately what I’m getting into, each year I watch this, but holy shit it is blatant, now…
If Switzerland wins, I might just give up on this absolute bullshit schlockfest, although personally I at least hope that the public vote has better taste than the supposed “experts”…
It's so much quieter without them here, lol. Though unlike, say, Drjester, you could at least sometimes have a constructive discussion with those two.
At least Imp, anyway. Sometimes, on some topics that didn't relate directly to women, and that he couldn't bizarrely turn into "muh matriarchy".
Not gonna say "I miss them", but it's certainly changed the "vibe" here, a bit,
I also somewhat "miss" Dom's comments and discussion contributions, lol. He sometimes had fairly valid points.
Not sure how, but this place somehow became relatively much more sane than Stupidpol or similar, even on most "contentious" issues. Which i did not expect. Though I guess it is no surprise that even relatively "based" subreddits have gone off the deep end by now...
Though the craziness of some of our resident turboposters is/was what made this place entertaining, tbh, lol. At least for me. Mostly.
I rewatched that last night. I haven't watched it in about 20 years, because when I was a kid, it was just... Too sad. I couldn't handle the grief in it, I guess, and it genuinely sat with me for years afterwards (though I couldn't remember which movie it was, lol). It's easy to mix up with AI: Artificial Intelligence, which came out at the same time, though I don't think I've seen that one. But if you have, apparently there's a lot of crossover...
Anyway, without throwing too many spoilers out, I mostly quite liked it, this time around. Critics at the time didn't, and it didn't do very well at the box office, partly due to bad marketing (marketed as a family comedy, when it really... Wasn't), and partly tonal inconsistencies...
It's definitely flawed, and I wish it had spent less time trying to force Asimov's ideas and screwball physical comedy into the same film. There's some serious plot holes, and some things which are just... Uncomfortable, but it's not a bad film by any means.
Still incredibly sad, though. However the things about it that make me sad are different to those that greatly affected me when I was around 8, lol.
Robin Williams does a pretty good job, though I personally think Embeth Davidtz (what a name, lol) and Oliver Platt did a better job with the material they were given.
But yeah, I certainly still like this movie a lot more than Reddit does, for example, lol.
It asks some questions that I doubt Hollywood would even have the balls to think about, these days. Which is something.
