I agree with you here... Fraternity implies some sort of loyalty amongst one another, but in truth they hold loyalty solely to the cause. If someone steps out of line slightly on even a single issue, they go into a feeding frenzy to shame them back in line or drive them out of the circle.
Trying to compare it to comparable offenses: Almost half of millennials believe speaking out against the govt is criminal. Almost half of millennials believe commenting on society is criminal. Almost half of millennials believe pointing out the obvious is criminal.
