I've got some family like that. They're not evil, they're just stupid and consistently make stupid decisions and refuse to change anything about their behavior. Naturally one feels bad, but the only realistic way to solve their problem is to micromanage their lives. And even then it would be an uphill battle - not to mention completely unfair to their surrogate parent / guardian.

To quote IASIP, "once your brain is a piece of shit, it's always a piece of shit". Most people are shit and it's a waste of time and effort to try to micromanage them in Western society.

Stories like this remind me of the woman who had her face ripped off by someone's pet chimpanzee. A wild animal will always be a wild animal, even if you put a diaper on it and give it a name.
