The whole Venezuela thing never made any sense; why would the US take such drastic action (which creates a very dangerous precedent) when Venezuela hasn't been a problem for the US in twenty years? The whole country has basically collapsed and I have no doubt American interests can easily buy access, commies or no.

But if we take this as Israel's new guaranteed source of oil, a war that potentially cripples ME production (incliding the Saudis) is no longer off the table.

That makes total sense to me.

New info has come to light suggesting this also has to do with the petro dollar being effectively sidestepped by BRICS, making American sanctions worthless.
