I listened to some of Owen Shroyer's insomniac Venezuelan strike call-in last night. A few callers mentioned staying home for elections here on out.

Shroyer specifically mentioned that 3rd parties aren't an option for midterms.

Is there something specific to midterms that 3rd parties aren't allowed or are even less competitive than Presidential cycles? Is it simply that low resource 3rd options are even more hopeless during off-year races? Are 3rd parties simply less likely to put up candidates for Governor & Senator races?
