Glenn Greenwald had a segment last year where he talked about interviewing Mike Johnson a few months before he became Speaker. Where he was just some Congressman no one had ever heard of and championing for the abolishment of domestic spying through FISA courts & warrants.
Then he became Speaker, and one of the first things he declared was how important the entire FISA domestic spying regime was to national security.
Glenn IIRC heavily implied that Mike Johnson was a prime example of how some Deep State actors take you aside to a special room as soon as you rise to a position of prominence and tell you how it's going to be.

Johnson claimed to be against FISA surveillance with Greenwald in July 2023, then rammed through the FISA renewal approval in Congress in April 2024, disallowing any amendments.
Johnson claimed in April 2024 that he was now "better informed" after a national security briefing that changed his mind. And he invited all fellow congressmen to get "informed" like he did.
