That's not to say they won't do what you're predicting. The GOP's rare failure to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory makes it less likely, but far from impossible. The Dems' main motivation is to put on show for their lunatic base, and they'll be just as eager to do that in January. Having to bend over like a bitch afterwards nullifies any benefit any political benefit they would otherwise gain, but we're not dealing with rational people here.
