Seriously, Covid era wasn't more than a handful of years ago, people should still remember that it SCREWED everyone with the shutdown orders for no reason. Everyone should have a rainy year fund put aside, as soon as practical to do so.

But government employees I guess thought the gravy train was infinite and unceasing?

I work at a business that has union negotiations every five years. Their longest strike was, like, a couple hours. But every time we come up to it, the union makes sure to let every unionized employee know "a strike is always possible, you should have at least two months worth of money put aside by contract negotiation deadline for if things go really south."

From a managerial side, I echo this with a "it really should be at least six months you put aside at all times. Our business was shuttered for over a year from COVID. Covid never went away, we just stopped caring. Hopefully we continue to not strike, but that's just reasonable preparedness."
