It's 30 year old Sega vs. Nintendo consolewars stuff.

Lunar came out on the Sega CD with full motion video and CD-quality music 3 years before Chrono Trigger on the SNES. But it was on the Sega CD and sold like something on the Sega CD.

Never played it, but it had a good OST itself (even if you don't know what it's from, but if you're a reasonably old gamer, you've probably encountered the Boat Song [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbZJzh9kX8U] online somewhere*). The problem is because it's CD-quality, it's competing with other music in general, not just chiptunes. And Chrono Trigger is king of its musical niche.

Same old story: something is technically heads and shoulders above what a Nintendo system can do but between market share and Nintendo fans, it gets overshadowed by something on their system. And Lunar fans are extra annoyed because it got wiped from memory.

But hating on Chrono Trigger is never the way.

Edit: The FMV with the song link appears to be from the Saturn remake that was in 1996 and not in the SegaCD version. Lunar: The Silver Star vs. Lunar: Silver Star Story. Mea culpa, but still around the same era.
