William Tecumseh Sherman was one of the greatest generals in history. By whose "law books" are you saying he was a "war criminal"?

This is almost as cute as when you tried to cite the Trojan War, which purportedly took place a good 3150 years before the Geneva Conventions, as proof that Israel doesn't commit war crimes.

But yeah, the premise underlying this argument is invalid. You can be a good general and a war criminal. Look at your own Gen. Zaluzhny, who people claim is a good general.

HE was actually a very intelligent man. His letters and writings were highly praised at the time. He hated war with a passion, but knew that once it started, it was best to end it sooner rather than later.

Then you know that for all the scorn poured on Sherman, perhaps rightly, he mostly destroyed property and wasn't going around killing civilians and children. If Sherman could do that before all the treaties on war crimes, why can't Israel do that today?

The GOP begged him to replace Lincoln

I think you're getting your years wrong. I believe they tried to draft him in 1876, when Lincoln was long dead.
