That last point in their favour isn't sufficient, it's the bare minimum and common sense throughout most of history. Everything else about them is cringe and gay. Including the socialism. Which yes, you're right that just because they call themselves socialist wouldn't necessarily mean they are, it's their stated and enacted economic policies which make it so.
