The ONLY reason the majority of farming hasn’t been automated is it’s a large 1 time cost (722 billion estimated for the entire country)

When you have John Deere putting DRM in tractors in a blatant attempt at rent-seeking, I don't necessarily blame farmers for being hesitant at adopting new technology. It sucks hard enough to be a farmer without having an entire harvest dependent on a fucking Authorized Technician™ 300 miles away.
