The naive conception of a villian is a force directly opposed to what the heroes value. That's why you see children's cartoons where a kid has a magic dog or something and the villains want to take the magic dog away for some reason. Captain Planet likes the environment, so the bad guys want to destroy the environment - not for any motivation of their own, just because it's the opposite of what captain planet wants.

Lefties tend to have all-or-nothing thinking. Anyone favored is a combination commander/scientist/parent/sex partner, and of course anyone unfavored has to be the opposite of all of those things. That's why their obsessed with Trump's dick, and get confused and angry when you express indifference on the subject. That's why you see shit like Cuomo being called a sexy daddy while he has power, then as soon as he loses power he's a scumbag rapist. It's basically just borderline personality disorder.
