In fact, I'd say the trope of a deadbeat dad who abandons his family is more of a white man thing. Blacks are so promiscuous they often don't know who the father was to begin with, so there's no 'coming back' for the father. In fact I remember a story of how accidental incest is uncommon because two blacks had no idea they had the same father.
