There's actually been a case where one single man killed a grizzly bare handed by shoving his arm down the grizzly's throat and grabbing the tongue, then holding on til it choked to death. Animals are not calm and collected machines making optimal decisions when threatened. Just need one guy to gouge the gorilla's eyes and it gets radically easier. In the real world, unlike in video games, there is no good defence against violence other than simply not getting involved with it yourself.
