However, the antisocial cluster B ones, like sociopathy, psychopathy, and NPD, have real scientific backing, unlike most of them. Such people have more or less broken brains, do not have normal fear or anxiety responses, and often have zero capacity for compassion or empathy. Not just apparently, but by important parts of their brains being inactive, when normal ones are lit up, on MRIs. Many, maybe most, go undiagnosed, so how many is all guesses, outside of those with criminal histories, or that destroy their families, friends, and/or businesses. You can probably search up the story of the brain doc that diagnosed himself as a sociopath from accidentally reviewing his own brain scans, for an interesting anecdote.

It may be that there are more men that have these issues, due to the way expressed traits are spread, just as there are more highly intelligent men, and retarded men, than women, at least to whatever degree that genetic predisposition plays into it. However, if it's mostly caused by how they're raised, then who knows.

It's not something someone has a bit of and grows out of, though. If they develop that way, then that's it, for them. If it is mostly nurture, it may be reversible, into young adulthood. That's one of several big unknowns about it, since it usually takes a long time for them to be found out. Adolescent egomaniac type behavior is a very different thing, being wired to find social boundaries by crossing them left and right, at that time. People that are actually narcissists don't see others as separate complete people. They can't conceive of normal personal boundaries.

Modern women are more selfish, and report higher self-worth, than ever, and that is something that's been increasing since about the end of WWII. Traits of narcissism are there, but not to a degree that would indicate NPD, just pathological selfishness and histrionics. They heavily swing left, too.

The useful idiots are just tools, repeating such BS, not narcissistic themselves (mostly). To those gullible to simple emotional manipulation, it works, too. I don't even think the ones pushing it down to the Presidents, PMs, NGOs, lawmakers, and so on, are narcissistic, either. They just found a formula that worked, and rolled with it.

Lefties do tend to have very different amygdalas and hippocampuses than conservatives, indicating to them that conservatives are driven mostly by fear (projection - we know the world is dangerous, and work to navigate it as such, knowing that safety is only good up to a point). The reality is more that they haven't developed the ability to recognize subtle differences in threats out there, and are worse at regulating their emotions. Risk assessments that you are doing intuitively, throughout every day, they struggle with. It makes them more gullible, when someone with apparent authority tells them what to think and do.
